Who Can Become a Paid Caregiver?

MaineCare's program allows qualified individuals to get paid for providing care. Here's who can apply:

You CAN Be a Caregiver If:

You're a family member (adult child, sibling, grandchild, etc.)
You're a close friend or trusted person
You're 18 years or older
You can pass a background check
You're physically able to provide care
You're willing to complete training

Important Restrictions:

In most cases, a spouse cannot be paid to care for their spouse
A parent cannot be paid to care for their minor child
Certain legal relationships may have restrictions

What Do Caregivers Do?

As a paid caregiver, you'll provide essential support with daily activities based on your loved one's approved care plan.

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting

Meal Preparation

Prepare nutritious meals and assist with eating if needed

Mobility Assistance

Help with walking, transferring, and moving safely
