Keep walkways clear of clutter, cords, and obstacles
Arrange furniture to create clear pathways

Use non-slip mats in the shower/tub and on bathroom floor
Consider a shower chair or bench for bathing

Ensure adequate lighting at top and bottom of stairs
Mark the edge of steps with contrasting tape for visibility
Keep hallways well-lit and clear of obstacles

General Home Safety Tips

Improve Lighting

Increase wattage in lamps, install motion-sensor lights, and use bright LED bulbs. Good lighting is one of the easiest safety improvements.

Wear Proper Footwear

Avoid loose slippers and socks. Wear supportive, non-slip shoes or slippers with rubber soles both indoors and outdoors.

Emergency Contacts

Post emergency numbers near all phones. Consider a medical alert system or wearable device for quick help access.

Regular Maintenance

Check and fix loose floorboards, repair torn carpeting, and address any home hazards promptly.

Helpful Assistive Devices

These devices can significantly improve safety and independence:

Mobility Aids

Walkers, canes, wheelchairs, or rollators provide stability and support

Grab Bars & Rails

Install near toilets, bathtubs, showers, and along hallways for support

Transfer Equipment

Raised toilet seats, shower benches, and transfer boards make daily tasks safer

Alert Systems

Medical alert pendants or wristbands provide emergency help at the push of a button
